A document is an element of the library, placed on the shelves. Most of these documents are printed documents like books, magazines etc. To a lesser extent, there are also miscellaneous documents such as tapes and CDs.

How to reference a document?

A document is defined by two levels, a generic level and an item level.

Generic

The generic level describes the expression of a work. It is the bibliographic reference of the document.

For example, "Des récits ordinaires" by Grégory Castéra, Yaël Kreplak and Franck Leibovici published by Les presses du Réel and Villa Arson in 2014.

There are two types of generic bibliographic reference: periodic and non-periodic.

{{Non-periodic | title = Put on your Blue Genes | sub_title = Biotech-Kunst und die Verheißungen der Biotechnologie | image = | caption = | editor = Carsten Does, Andrea Keiz, Gabi Kellmann, Oliver Pohlisch, Sibylle Schubert, Kirsten Wagenschein | author = Agentur, Critical Art Ensemble, Sabine Flach, Hybrid Video Tracks, Thomas Lemke, Andrea zur Nieden, Stephen Nottingham, Paul Vanouse, Tissue Culture & Art Project | collection = | publisher = NGBK | pub_date = 2005 | isbn = 3-926796-97-9 | issn = | type = exhibition catalogue | design = | comment = 2 copies | is_ref_agency = « Agentur » on pp. 112-118, « Agentur » on p. 167 | specimen = | assembly = | language = de | license = ARR }}

Item

The item level describes the copy of a generic entity.

For example, the copy of "Des récits ordinaires" by Grégory Castéra, Yaël Kreplak and Franck Leibovici published by Les presses du Réel and Villa Arson in 2014 and which is in Agency's library.
